An infographic timeline on the life of pioneering electronic composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, whom I interviewed eleven years before his death in 2007. The timeline breaks up his life into 20-year periods, and shows his intersections with influential post-War pedagogue Olivier Messiaen as well as colleague John Cage, from whom he may have borrowed ideas in indeterminacy and ‘chance’ operations. An influence on musicians as diverse as Igor Stravinsky, Miles Davis, The Beatles, David Bowie, Holger Czukay, Kraftwerk, and Björk, Stockhausen was a fascinating figure in 20th- and 21st-century music.
